翻译的社会性与社会的翻译性

Reflection upon Social Translation and Translational Society

翻译与社会之间的关系错综复杂。如何系统科学地探索其间的关系,无论是社会学还是翻译研究,目前都还有很大的拓展空间。任何翻译都发生于特定的社会,受制于特定社会,服务于特定社会,因而,翻译必然具有社会性。然而,翻译并非单向地依赖于社会、受制于社会,社会的存在与发展也不同程度地有赖于翻译,即社会也具有翻译性。本文探讨了翻译社会性和社会翻译性的具体呈现形态,认为翻译的社会性体现于翻译产品、翻译过程、翻译功能、翻译价值;社会的翻译性则主要体现于人际沟通交往、知识话语生产与传播、社会发展与进步、全球治理与人类命运共同体。无论是翻译的社会性还是社会的翻译性,其中既有积极的一面,也有其消极的因素。基于翻译的社会性和社会的翻译性,翻译研究与社会学应该进一步加强视域融合,建构相应的社会学翻译研究这一交叉领域,并在此基础上针对翻译与社会的关联问题展开更为系统全面的研究。

The complexity of the relation between translation and society calls for further study, scientifically as well assystematically. Translation is social in that it is produced in society, governed by society, and aims to serve forsociety. However, any society is translational in that it relies on translation for its existence and development. Basedon exploring into the sociality of translation and the translationality of society, this paper attempts to hold the claimthat, on the one hand, translational society is embodied in translation products, translation processes, translationfunctions and translation values, and on the other hand, social translation is illustrated in communication, knowledgeproduction & dissemination, social progress, and global governance & a Community of Shared Future for Mankindbuilding. Meanwhile, it is of importance to realize that the impacts of translation on society as well as the society ontranslation are both active and negative. Therefore, it is of necessity and significance to blend Translation Studies andsociology for the establishment of an interdisciplinary, sociological approach to translation studies, so as tosystematically study the relationship between translation and society.
