As an important representative of China’s high-density cities,Shanghai is exploring how to achieve sustainable urban growth in the face of environmental resource constraints and a sudden reduction in the amount of open green space in the central city. This paper focuses on exploring ways to renew and optimize the stock of land under the new normal, using community gardens as a medium in the design of urban parks, and uniting multiple forces such as government, enterprises, social organizations and residents to build and share. The design refines the spatial narrative of the native species—fireflies, uses the space to connect the living environment and habits of the species, and takes the theme of natural science popularization as the entry point to connect the relationship between people and people, and people and nature. It aims to let the new generation of children have a natural environment in the city, let the elderly feel warmth and nostalgia in the community, and work together for the well-being of human beings and other creatures living in the city.
