The Anshan kiln site is located on a hillside southwest of Xijia Natural Village, Datangwu Village,Jinhua Town, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. From September to December 2005,the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and the Xiaoshan Museum of Hangzhou excavated the kiln site. They cleared three dragon kilns of the Eastern Zhou period and unearthed copious specimens of proto-porcelain and stamped ornamentation pottery. According to the stratigraphic relationship and the differences in unearthed artifacts, the proto-porcelains and stamped ornamentation potteries discovered at the Anshan kiln site can be divided into three periods. The first period is dated to the late Spring and Autumn Period, and the upper limit may reach the Mid-Spring and Autumn;the second period is between the late Spring and Autumn Period to the initial stage of the Warring States Period;the third period is the early Warring States Period. Moreover, the kiln-protecting earthen walls discovered on both sides of the fire chamber of the Ansan kiln-Y1 have never been seen in excavations of kiln sites of the same age. The excavation of the Anshan kiln site is of great significance to the study of industrial technology and production system of proto-porcelains and stamped ornamentation potteries in the Eastern Zhou period.
