The paper describes Sigerist's contribution to the development of the medical humanities mainly from the contribution to world medical history research,the worldwide promotion of health care system,and the promotion of Chinese medicine and culture.The connotations of Sigerist's medical humanistic thought are embodied in the redefinition of doctor-patient relationship,the new vision of medical profession,the new definition of medical attributes,the new cognition of health promotion and the new sense of university education.Sigerist's medical humanistic thought still has practical significance in the contemporary society,which is embodied in promoting the professionalism of medical students by medical history education,constructing harmonious doctor-patient relationship from the perspective of medical sociology,perfecting medical insurance system to maintain public order,and promoting the development of public health by health thought.His study of medical sociology was reflected in different aspects,the ultimate goal was to guide people toward healthier lives.
