Ah Q Zheng Zhuan,as Lu Xun’s first vernacular novel translated into foreign languages, portrays a classic image of Ah Q for overseas readers. The story,in six English versions in total, has been translated and interpreted in the English-speaking world for nearly one hundred years since George Kin Leung’s translation in 1926.However,previous studies of its English translations focused more on the text analysis or one version in a given period than the systematic analysis based on the translation strategies and acceptance. This paper examines its all English versions with historical materials and book reviews in a diachronic way, analyzing the translation purposes and features by different translators.By reviewing its acceptance path from professional scholars to gene-ral readers, the paper aims to provide reference for current efforts to popularize Chinese literature overseas.
