From the perspective of researchers’ behavioral motivation, the paper analyzes the source and strength of the researchers’ motivation to carry out the transformation of scientific and technological(S&T)achievements.Based on the characteristics of individual behavior motivation, a “ladder model” of the transformation mode of S&T achievements is constructed by using the two-dimensional four-quadrant thinking method. The transformation mode of S&T achievements is divided into four types, namely, internal drive mode, push mode, traction mode and encouragement mode.By combining theory with practice, the similarities and differences between different modes of transformation of S&T achievements, such as the purpose, preference, motivation source, motivation size and success rate, are compared theoretically. From the point of practice, four typical cases of the transformation of S&T achievements in China are further explained and verified. The findings have important guiding significance to carry out the transformation of S&T achievements, and help to select different modes according to different conditions and formulate targeted policies and measures for different modes.
