内蒙古西部地区现代考古学意义上的调查肇始于西方的考察者,其中比较重要的有科兹洛夫哈喇浩特西夏和元代城市的考古发现,桑志华、德日进在萨拉乌苏的考古调查和发掘,西北科学考察团对内蒙古西部地区整体的调查,江上波夫在敖伦苏木古城的考古调查和发掘等,这些中外学者在内蒙古西部地区的考古调查和发掘为我们留下了宝贵的资料。

The investigation in the sense of modern archaeology in the western region of Inner Mongolia began with Western investigators. Among them, the more important archaeological discoveries include the Xixia and Yuan dynasty urban relics discovered by Kozlov in harahot, archaeological investigation and excavation of Emile Licent and Teilhard de Chardin in Salawusu, the overall investigation of the western region of Inner Mongolia by the Scientific Mission to North-Western, and Namio Egami’s archaeological investigation and excavation in Olon Sume ancient city, etc. The archaeological investigation and excavation of these archaeological scholars in the western region of Inner Mongolia have left us valuable data.
