摘要
The theme of this inaugurating issue of Fundamental Research(FR)is quantum information and quantum computing(QIQC).QIQC is the heart of the second quantum revolution,which is currently unfolding worldwide.In the first quantum revolution,scientists passively discov-ered and used quantum properties to construct devices and facilities;by contrast,in the second quantum revolution,scientists are actively fabricating quantum matter and devices and exploiting quantum effects for quantum computing,communication,and sensing.Over the last 20 years,the reliability and fidelity of our control of quantum systems have increased dramatically.In many cases,a level of reliability and fidelity that allows the use of quantum systems for real-world applications has been reached.
