Unnatural Narrative: Theory, History and Practice is a book written by Brian Richardson which is a summation of his work on the study of unnatural narratology. It is mainly embodied in two levels: the first is the systematization of the study of unnatural narrative. It clarifies the concept of non-natural theory, retrospects the history of non-natural narrative, interprets the specific text critically from the perspective of multiple theories, and shows the deep thinking of the study of non-natural narrative. The second is the comprehensiveness of the content. unnatural texts are widely presented from vertical(cross-era),horizontal(cross-culture) and comprehensive(cross-genre and cross-ideological trend) perspectives respectively. The book widely presents the history of unnatural narratives in different countries, with particular attention to the universality and spontaneity of the emergence of unnatural narratives. The object of text interpretation is not only classical ancient Greek drama, but also the most extreme experimental works of postmodernism. It not only starts with the widely influential western literary works, but also provides a large number of traditional oriental literary works. It also takes into account the comprehensiveness of different regions,including the richness of different genres, and the flexibility of using different theories for interpretation.
