为解决工人阶级在资本主义制度下的不平等困境,欧文主张建立满足人类全面平等发展需要的普遍幸福的价值观。普遍幸福观以平等为内核,“环境决定”是平等得以建立的基础,劳动和联合劳动是调和个人幸福和公共幸福的方式,由个人幸福走向普遍幸福的过程就是平等得以呈现的过程。然而,其普遍幸福观建构的理论前提和实践路径中存在的平等悖论致使其将社会平等作为最终指向终究保有一定的空想因素。
