刘向的《列女传》以传、颂、图三位一体的形式编撰。与《列女传》文本并行的《列女图》,作为中国古代第一套系统的列女图像,继承了先秦以来的图像教化传统,成为汉魏六朝时期皇室和贵族妇女规范自身道德品行的教科书,确立了以儒家价值观为本位的女性道德标准。汉魏六朝的列女图像以屏风、画像石和手卷等形式流传于世,在彰显其社会教化作用的同时,也逐渐成为一门独立的艺术题材。

In Western Han Dynasty,Liu Xiang's Biography for Chaste Women was compiled in the form of biography,ode and picture.This series of female paintings became the first set of systematic images of women in ancient China,inheriting the tradition of image education since Pre-Qin Dynasty,and became a textbook for royal and noble women to regulate their own moral conduct during the Han,Wei and six dynasties,while establishing the female moral standard based on Confucian values.The images of women in Han,Wei and Six Dynasties were presented in the form of screens,portrait stones and hand scrolls.While highlighting its social enlightenment role,it gradually became an independent artistic tradition with female figures as the main theme.
