The influence of COVID-19 pandemic on medical students' career choices

目的:探讨新冠肺炎疫情对山西医科大学医学生就业取向的影响,分析医学生从医决心的影响因素。方法:对学生进行问卷调查;影响因素分析采用多因素无序多分类Logistic回归。结果:4892名临床专业学生中,76.7%认为疫情发生大大坚定了其从医决心;18.6%认为部分坚定了从医决心。无序多分类Logistic回归分析结果显示:年级、大学整体成绩、大学录取学校和预期目标的差距、居住地、之前是否计划毕业后当医生、对本次疫情的关注程度、父母双方是否前往抗疫一线等因素会影响其从医决心。结论:新冠肺炎疫情对医学生的就业取向产生了正向影响。

Objective: To explore the influence of COVID-19 on the career choices of medical students in Shanxi medical university. The influencing factors of medical students’ determination to become doctors were analyzed. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted among medical students in our school, which mainly included basic information, academic performance, cognition of the epidemic, and changes in career choices. Disordered multi classification logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors. Results: Among the 4892 clinical medical students in our school, 3754(76.7%) thought that the outbreak had greatly strengthened their determination to become doctors. 910(18.6%) thought that the outbreak had partly strengthened their determination to become doctors. Disordered multi classification logistic regression show that factors would affect their determination to become a doctor such as grade, overall university performance, gap between the schools and the expected goals, residential address, whether to be a doctor after graduation before the outbreak, the level of concern about the outbreak, and whether both parents went to fight the epidemic. Conclusions: The epidemic of NCP has a positive effect on the career choices of medical students.
