An Attempt to Reinvigorate the Northern School:Origin and Implication of the Compilation of The Biography of Jifu Sages in the Qing Dynasty

通过编纂《大清畿辅先哲传》,徐世昌诸人在充分占有资料的基础之上,对有清一代北学大貌与内在脉络进行了完善与再建,可视作晚清数十年来莲池学术群体几代积淀后的一个总结。此著作堪称民国问世甚早的清学史作品,价值颇高。通观清季民初从创建畿辅先哲祠至编纂《大清畿辅先哲传》之过程,其间政学群体的互动、地域理念的承继、学术群体的扶植等问题,值得深入探究。

Xu Shichang et al. compiled The Biography of Jifu Sages in the Qing Dynasty on the basis of fully possessing the materials, which improved and rebuilt the general picture and inner context of the Northern School of the Qing Dynasty. This can be regarded as a summary of the accumulation of the Lotus Pond academic community in the late Qing Dynasty after several generations and decades. This work can be regarded as a work on the history of Qing studies that came out very early in the Republic of China,and it is of high value. Through a comprehensive view of the process from the establishment of the Jifu ancestral temples and the compilation of The Biography of Jifu Sages in the Qing Dynasty during the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China periods, issues such as the interaction of political and academic groups, the inheritance of regional concepts, and the support of academic groups are worthy of in-depth exploration.
