翻译美学理论视角下《道德经》修辞手法的英译对比——以亚瑟·韦利和林语堂译本为例

A Comparative Study of Rhetorical Devices in Two English Versions of Tao Te Ching:from Perspective of Translation Aesthetics

《道德经》是一部集哲学、文学和美学为一体的经典巨著,这部著作在传递深远隽永的哲学智慧的同时,广泛娴熟地运用多种修辞手法,给人们带来独特奇妙的审美体验。以亚瑟·韦利(Arthur Waley)和林语堂的《道德经》英译本为例,在展现两位译者的翻译个性化的同时,从翻译美学角度解读《道德经》主要修辞手段的英译,结合经典句式,对《道德经》语言修辞方面的审美信息进行对比分析。挖掘这部诗化哲学经典的美学特质,赏析中西不同译文如何再现原文审美信息,对翻译美学视角下的《道德经》翻译做出有益的探索。

The“Tao Te Ching”is a classic masterpiece that integrates philosophy,literature and aesthetics.While conveying profound and meaningful philosophical wisdom,it uses a variety of rhetoric devices extensively and skillfully to bring people a unique and wonderful aesthetic experience.Taking the English version of Tao Te Ching by Arthur Waley and Lin Yutang as an example,while showing the personalized translation of the two translators,this paper attempts to interpret the translation of rhetorical devices in Tao Te Ching from the perspective of translation aesthetics.Combining classic sentence patterns,it explores the aesthetic characteristics of this poetic philosophical classic and appreciateshow different translations reproduce the aesthetic information of the original text.
