摘要
创办于清末的《国粹学报》,以其名家云集、观点荟萃的学术定位而闻名,但是该刊曾积极参与中国美术现代转型进程,并在其中发挥助推作用的一面,却较少为人所知。事实上,《国粹学报》主编邓实、黄节等人不仅因倡导“古学复兴”而与黄宾虹等传统书画家结盟,还为后者坚持“借古开今”艺术发展道路提供了多重支持。青年主笔刘师培率先在《国粹学报》开辟《美术》栏目,结合传统方法与现代视野,开展美术历史及理论研究,继而吸引黄宾虹等专业人士加入其中,合力构建持续且深入的美术交流平台。1907年—1911年间,《国粹学报》还与蔡哲夫合作,连载博物图画共128幅。这一系列图绘既展现了书画家接受古学、新学的双重影响,也成为中国美术现代转型的一页缩影。
Journal of Chinese Cultural Quintessence,an academic publication established in the late Qing Dynasty,is famous for its concentration of views and works by renowned scholars.Yet a lesser-known role of the journal is an active participant and driving force behind Chinese art modernization.In fact,Deng Shi,Huang Jie and several other chief editors of the journal aligned with conventional artists such as Huang Binhong,advocating“the revival of Chinese classical culture”.They also offered support to the latter as the artists pursued an“absorbing the ancient to improve the present”path of art creation.Liu Shipei,a young chief commentator,opened an art column in the journal.Integrating conventional methods and modern perspectives,Liu Shipei studied art history and theories,which attracted professionals such as Huang Binhong to his league.The two artists thus worked together to build a constant and in-depth communication platform for art.From 1907 to 1911,the journal partnered with Cai Zhefu,publishing 128 paintings of natural history in a series.That series of illustrations was shaped by both ancient and modern studies and revealed the transformation of Chinese art to its modernity.
