摘要
在中国文化走出去的大背景下,研究文化类期刊标题英译颇有必要。以《寻根》杂志为例,以传播学为视角,从办刊理念、文章内容、标题结构、文化因素等方面探讨文化类期刊标题特征及翻译方法。指出标题翻译要以杂志定位为基础,以文章内容和标题结构为依据,以服务目的语读者为导向,实现文化的有效传播与沟通。
Chinese journals generally include English translation of its content and/or article abstracts, to facilitate international exchange and retrieval. Article titles and their English translation has gained much attention from translation scholars. Titles of news, academic papers and literary works are among the most frequently studied topics, while culture journals and their content have received little attention,which is obviously not in line with the large-scale introduction of Chinese culture to the world audience. This paper takes Root Exploration, a culture journal, as its object of study and approaches English translation of its article titles from the theory of communication. It combines analysis and translation of titles with the journal goals, article content, title structure and culture-loaded words. The paper concludes that good translation and effective communication is guided by the journal goals, based on the article content and title structure, and oriented toward the target reader.
