Ba Jin’s Novels during the Anti-Japanese War Period are characterized by caring for “ordinary people and small things”. While in Chongqing, Guilin, Guiyang and other rear cities, Ba Jin deeply experienced the indiscriminate bombing of civilians by the Japanese army, and placed his insights into war violence and national destiny with“fire”as the core literary image.Combined with his life experience and literary practice on the home front, this essay analyzes Ba Jin’s attention to the ethical connotation of the commoners and daily life in this period, and expounds the significance of“ordinary people and small things”in communicating the reality of war and literary narration from the epistolary novels and the complex attitudes of the writer. It also discusses Ba Jin’s thoughts on ethics of war as an anarchist as well as a writer.
