In the 1940s, daily writing became a literary symptom in the rear of the wartime. BaJin in this sequence also experienced a transformation in his creation, from the early "heroic feats" to the relatively plain "little man and little things". Cold Night(Han Ye)written during this time had been regarded as the pinnacle of BaJin’s existing creations shortly after its birth, but as a family theme creation lacking realistic prototypes, Cold Night reveals a certain gap between the motif and reality, releasing a kind of political anxiety and the suspension of moral judgments. Under this premise, disease as a narrative motivation shows the balance between BaJin’s writing plan and literary metaphorical rhetoric. Daily writing, motif restatement, and disease narrative construct the artistic coordinates of Cold Night in the literature of the 1940s and BaJin’s personal creative career.
