少年时代,孙了红家道中落。1920年代初,孙了红初登沪上文坛,小露才华,此外还曾参加杭州兰社的文学活动,与施蛰存、张天翼等人有同社之谊。1920年代早中期,他接连遭遇肺病与婚变。连番的厄运使孙了红心理受创,长期难愈,他看待世界的态度日趋悲观,精神状况也出现异常,这也影响了他的侦探小说创作。

As a teenager,Sun Liaohong experienced the decline of his family.In the early 1920s,Sun Liaohong debuted in the literary arena in Shanghai,and revealed his talent preliminarily.Moreover,he also participated in the literary activities of the Orchid Society in Hangzhou,and developed friendship with Shi Zhecun,Zhang Tianyi and the other members of the literary society.In the early and middle 1920s,he suffered from lung disease and marital change successively.Repeated woes brought psychological trauma on Sun Liaohong,and it was difficult for him to recover for a long time.His world outlook turned increasingly pessimistic,and his mental state also became abnormal.
