As a unified multi-ethnic country,how to handle ethnic issues and do well in ethnic work is an important proposition for it concerns China's long-term peace and stability and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.The world is undergoing profound changes,unseen in a century,and the Chinese nation is at a crucial stage of realizing its great rejuvenation.Increasing the degree of awareness and cohesion of the Chinese national community is indispensable for achieving ethnic solidarity and national unity.Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC),its Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has acted in response to the new state of international and domestic affairs,grasped the overall development of the cause of the Party and the country,and creatively put forward the major proposition of“forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.”This is the latest positive achievement of adapting Marxist national theory to the Chinese context,which points the CPC's ethnic policy in the right direction in this new era and provides a fundamental basis for it.The program content of forging a sense of community for the Chinese nation in the Party's ethnic work in the new era can be understood from four dimensions:the theoretical distillation of the Party's understanding of ethnic issues in the new era,the study of the Party's historical positions,the requirements for ethnic policy,and the logic of collective action.Only through the six“Requisites”,i.e.establishing correct values,strengthening emotional belonging,realizing common interests,improving the governance of ethnic affairs,safeguarding the ideological position,and consolidating the political foundation,can we truly shape a sense of community for the Chinese nation.Reviewing setbacks experienced by the Chinese nation since modern times,and the Party's achievements and experience in ethnic works over the past hundred years,it is imperative to forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation to safeguard the primary interests of all ethnic groups,realize long-term peace and stability of the country,and strengthen and develop harmonious ethnic relations.To forge a sense of community for the Chinese nation,we need to comprehensively promote the creation of a common spiritual home for all ethnic groups,encourage all ethnic peoples to work together toward socialist modernization,promote exchange,communication,and integration between all ethnic groups,improve the governance of ethnic affairs,resolutely guard against major risks and hidden dangers in ethnic affairs,and strengthen and improve the Party's overall leadership over ethnic matters.A complete and accurate grasp of the“Essence”and“Requisites”of the Party's ethnic policy in the new era is of great importance for thoroughly implementing the line,principles,and strategies of the Party's ethnic work in the new era,and firmly following the correct approaches with Chinese characteristics in handling ethnic affairs.
