Pain descriptors in SF-MPQ-2 play an important role in the diagnosis and treatment process. However, pain descriptors in SF-MPQ-2 are complex and abstract in meaning. They cannot show the details of pain perception and are difficult to translate in cross-cultural context. The descriptions of pain written in NSM are characterized by simple vocabulary and grammar, and they are universal in all language. They are easy for patients to understand and translate into other languages. This method also helps the patient describe the details of pain perception.
