Sigillography of Sino-Foreign Art Exchange in Canton Port from the 18th to 19th Centuries

印章的使用是人类文明社会的普遍现象,是社会思想艺术的物质载体,在行政管理、商贸经济、文化生活领域发挥着重要作用,也是18-19世纪广州口岸中外艺术交流的重要领域。当下绝大多数印章实体已经遗失,似乎已经成为绝学。经过世界范围的收罗汇辑,可见档案文献上少量遗存的印章印迹依然鲜红清晰,它们具有强烈的艺术学特征,填补了岭南印玺学的空白领域。

Seals are widely used in human civilization.It is the material carrier of ideas and art in society.From ancient times to the present,seals have played an important role in the fields of administration,trade,economy and culture whatever in China or foreign.It is also a important field of Sino-foreign art exchange in Canton from the 18th to 19th centuries.Regrettably,most of the seals have been lost that making this study difficult.To this end,the author collects the seals in the archives all over the world,trying to fill the blank field of Lingnan sigillography and promote the further research of sino-foreign art exchange.
