宋代以前云在艺术上的作用以装饰为主,通常是以抽象的形式表现.随着宋代绘画审美观念的转变,山水画中云的表现形式及作用也发生了变化:由抽象到具象,装饰作用到情感寄托,以及对生命的思考.宋代山水画受理学的影响,注重对生命的关注,此时绘画中云的表现形式开始趋于写实,也因为情感影响使得其形式更为丰富,云的诗意也有了提升.
