The Ming Dynasty was an era of high prestige for the imperial examination system,giving rise to many imperial families with fathers and sons succeeding each other and brothers all taking the highest rankings in the exams.The Wang Xijue family of Taicang,Suzhou,was one of the most exceptional such families,and cultivated a positive family ethic of being clean and upright,and not clinging to the power.The academic community has recognized the important role that good family traditions and education played in the development and continuation of this family under the imperial examination system.Through a detailed analysis of the Wang family's family customs and education,it was found that their family education included the concepts of leading by example,equal communication and self-reliance,and that this family education led to their great success in the imperial examinations.The family ethics and education of the Wang family still serve as a positive inspiration for family education and family tradition today,and are worth learning from.
