西南联合大学作为全面抗战时期的一所著名高等学府,在办学条件极端恶劣的情况下,形成了高尚、独立的大学精神,被人们给予极高评价。然而,人们对西南联合大学校务管理的投入、院系机构设置和教师的聘任与管理以及教学管理和教学规范等方面存在一定程度的高估。其原因主要是人们充分体恤到抗战中合作办学之难,西南联合大学在恶劣环境中反倒取得了较高的办学效益,相较于当下,高等教育发展的各种不尽人意及对大师的急切呼唤,因而出现了对西南联合大学作出偏高的价值判断。

National Southwestern Associated University(NSAU)was a prestigious institution of higher learning during the Anti⁃Japanese War(1937-1945).It is highly regarded for its noble and independent university spirit developed under the extremely harsh conditions for managing a university.However,it has been overrated to a certain extent in many aspects,such as the input into the university administration,the institutional setup of schools and departments,faculty recruitment and management,and teaching managements and standards.The main reason is that people fully understand and sympathize with the difficulty of wartime joint schooling.NSAU had made great achievements given the harsh environment;while in comparison,the current development of higher education is not satisfying for various reasons when there is such an urgent appeal for masters,hence the higher regards of the NSAU.
