Being a Guqin(or Qin,a 7-stringed plucked instrument)performance form,the Qin Songs are a traditional art combining singing with music and created either by writing lyrics to the melodies or composing for the lyrics.The Qin Songs of the Tang Dynasty took shape on the aesthetic basis of Tang poetry,and these two art forms shared the same aesthetic characteristics as a whole.When the Qin Songs were performed,the singing conformed to the rhythms of the poetic language as well as the tonal patterns and pronunciation characteristics of the vernaculars,thus forming unique phonetic features like sentence pauses and music measures.As an essence of traditional Chinese music culture with the age-old prominent national style and features of times,the Guqin art carries rich connotations of traditional culture.
