This article is a critique of Jean Atlan written by Emmanuel Lévinas, in which the writer purposed a view of art distinct from that he purposed elsewhere: the praise of the human and divine dimensions of art. This praise is not inspired by religious art but by the artwork of a modern Jewish painter. This article not only challenges the stereotype that Lévinas was an iconoclast of art but also establishes a stronger connection between his thoughts and modern art.
