On April 25,1983,Zou Denong and Dou Yide interviewed the famous architect Chen Zhi.This article converts the recorded interview into a suitably concise text,and analyses the key issues in the interview.The interview mainly includes:groundbreaking Chinese architects and their works;tradition and innovation;national forms and local characteristics;individual creation,collective creation,executive will and so on.Chen Zhi was outspoken and pertinent on classic and authoritative architectural works from before and after the liberation to the early 1980s.He had a deep thinking and distinct position on the development and direction of Chinese architecture.
