It has been said that without the passion of Beethoven and Mozart in the eighteenth century, there would not have been such bright flowers:without the work of Matisse and Picasso, modern painting in the twentieth century would have been a wilderness[1].Matisse's discovery of the breath of life in painting made him the helmsman of the twentieth-century New Art[2]and officially brought Fauvism to the centre stage of art history. This paper focuses on the emotional psychology of colour metaphors in Matisse's paintings, and analyses the characteristics of'life'in Matisse's paintings from different periods;the influence of Matisse's vitality on later generations.
