Mao Zedong’s sports value came from his early life experience, learning experience in Hunan First Normal School, and his revolutionary spirit. His Research on Sports pointed out that “sports can strengthen the body” and “sports can defend the country”. In the period of revolution and construction, Mao Zedong further cultivated and developed his sports value, which was integrated with the original mission of the Chinese Communists to “seek happiness for the Chinese people and seek rejuvenation for the Chinese nation”. Mao Zedong’s sports value is an important part of Mao Zedong thought and an action guide for building a powerful sports country. It inspires us to keep pace with the times and develop sports, adhere to the concept of sports for the people, return to mass sports, attach equal importance to education of morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics and labor, and realize the all-round development of the people.
