曾国藩与王庆云的订交与疏离

Zeng Guofan and Wang Qingyun’s Friendship and Estrangement

曾国藩前期日记常或多有中断,从与之交往密切的王庆云日记,可以考见曾、王订交因由与过程,理清其学术交往与仕途分合:订交始于丁未科武会试主考,由实学交流而往来密切,因“议礼之争”而成为同党,曾国藩力荐王庆云出任要职,其后曾国藩募勇征战,王庆云协饷由盛转衰,导致曾国藩疏远直至终止往来。理学诗文之外,曾国藩一度沉潜实学,精熟舆图,则为此前不太注意而有助于进一步探究。

Zeng Guofan’s diary was interrupted in the early stage, but his friend Wang Qingyun’s diary has many relevant records. Based on this, the association process of Zeng and Wang can be examined to clarify their academic contacts and estrangement. They served as examiners of the martial imperial examination in 1847. As they both valued practical studies, they kept close contact and became good friends because of the same political views. Zeng Guofan recommended Wang Qingyun to an important post, and then Zeng Guofan raised military expenditure for the war. Wang Qingyun turned from flourish to decadence in raising military expenditure, resulting in Zeng Guofan’s disappointment and estrangement, until the termination of contact. In addition to neo-confucianism and poetry, Zeng Guofan once immersed himself in practical studies and cartology, which is worth further study.
