The Marco Polo Bridge Incident shocked both home and abroad, and major domestic newspapers reported it in more detail. In the face of national calamity, although the readers’reading, thinking and attitude towards the incident were different in time and space, they had similar feelings of anxiety and resentment. When it came to“peace”and“war,”readers were divided. However, with the flames of war, especially with the fall of Peiping and Tianjin and the outbreak of the August 13 Incident, the report of the Marco Polo Bridge Incident, which lasted for more than a month, made many readers gradually realize that the war of resistance against Japanese aggression and national salvation was an inevitable choice.Through the news records and later recollection of politicians, traditional gentry and scholars,we can explore the impact and influence of this great event from the perspective of reading history.
