Objective To investigate the mediating effect of professional identity between perceived organizational support and job burnout in nurses at a designated hospital amid coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.Methods A total of 313 nurses from a designated hospital amid COVID-19 pandemic were enrolled as research subjects, among whom a questionnaire survey was conducted using the Professional Identity Scale for Nurses, the Perceived Organizational Support Scale, and the modified Maslach Burnout Inventory. The mediating effect of professional identity between perceived organizational support and job burnout in nurses at a designated hospital amid COVID-19 pandemic was analyzed. Results Among the 313 nurses, the total score for job burnout was 42.97±13.58,the score for perceived organizational support was 49.53±9.95,and the score for professional identity was 105.64±16.60.The score for job burnout negatively correlated with the scores for professional identity and perceived organizational support, and the score for perceived organizational support positively correlated with the score for professional identity(all P<0.05);path analysis revealed that professional identity played a partial mediating effect between perceived organizational support and job burnout, with a mediating effect of-0.485 which accounted for 65.71%of the total effect. Conclusion A relatively high level of job burnout is seen in nurses at a designated hospital amid COVID-19 pandemic, which negatively correlates with professional identity and perceived organizational support.Perceived organizational support can directly predict the level of job burnout of clinical nurses, and can also indirectly predict the level of job burnout by professional identity.
