太王迁歧表面上看是为躲避戎狄之患,实则是为缓和日益激化的殷周矛盾,寻求新的发展空间,进而实现兴周灭商的战略目标。因此太王迁歧并非随意而为,岐地是经过深思熟虑、慎重考察后所选定的重要战略要地,这也是太王迁岐后,周人能够迅速发展的深层原因。而周人称“周”至少可追溯至殷墟二期周人居豳之时,当时周人已建立周邦,有“周”之称,其得名源自周人世为农官,善于农耕,而非源自周原。相反周原是因周人所居才有此地名。

Outwardly,Taiwang's migration to Qi area was to avoid the troubles caused by Rong&Di peoples,actually,it aimed to moderate the intensified conflicts between Yin dynasty and Zhou-state,and seek for new developing space for Zhou people to realize its further strategic target of thriving Zhou-state and eliminating Shang.Therefore,it is not a casual action that Taiwang migrated to Qi area.Qi area was an important strategic place chosen by careful consideration and investigation.It is the deep reason that Zhou-state quickly expanded after living in Qi area.The call of Zhou people can be dated back to 1046 B.C(the second period of Yin Ruins),when Zhou-people dwelled in Bin area.At that time,Zhou-people had set up a state called Zhou.It stemmed from that Zhou people were expert in agriculture and were farming officials for generations in Yin Dynasty,not because of their living place which was called Zhou Yuan,on the contrary,Zhou Yuan got the name just because of its inhabitants-Zhou people.
