The paper lists the main synonyms(270 in total)in the STCW Convention in the 7 categories of synonymous verbs,synonymous nouns,synonymous adjectives,synonymous phrases,synonymous words/phrases,synonymous terms and tautology synonyms.The characteristics of the synonym usage in the STCW Convention are illuminated with examples,aiming at enabling readers to accurately acquire the precise meaning,collocation and usage of the synonyms in the STCW Convention,giving play to the significant role of synonyms in language usage to the largest extent,and thus promoting the study and translation of the STCW Convention as well as the research and drafting of proposals for amendments to the STCW Convention.
