Energy Internet is the inevitable outcome of the integration of the new generation of information technology and energy, and the concrete realization of "promoting energy revolution and accelerating digital development". To achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, we must rely on energy Internet technology innovation to promote the decoupling of economic development and carbon emissions, and achieve economic, efficient, safe and low-carbon sustainable development. All countries attach importance to the innovative application of new energy and digital technologies in the field of energy and Internet. From the aspects of R&D expenditure, R&D personnel, academic output, research direction, international cooperation and industry-university cooperation, this paper analyzes and studies the input of thousands of key science and technology projects and the output of tens of thousands of papers on energy Internet in major countries from 2011 to 2020. It has identified the gaps between China and other countries, which mainly lie in the intensity of investment in energy internet science and technology innovation, output quality and efficiency. It proposes to deepen the reform of the energy Internet scientific and technological innovation system and mechanism, and select key directions to carry out special energy Internet pilot and demonstration projects, with an aim to promote the diversified and large-scale development of China’s energy Internet and help achieve China’s carbon neutrality goal.
