Habermas’communicative thought and contemporary western rhetoric:overlap and contribution

作为一位跨界的思想家,哈贝马斯及其交往思想引起了当代西方修辞学界的广泛关注。通过梳理哈贝马斯的交往思想体系,揭示其与当代西方修辞学之间存在的交集,即都源于对当代社会问题的分析,都关注人与人之间的交往,具有共同的目的旨趣。同时,指出哈贝马斯的交往思想对当代西方修辞学理论与实践的贡献,即它不仅有助于拓宽修辞学研究范围、丰富当代西方修辞学理论,还为修补修辞学与哲学之间的裂缝、恢复修辞学的声誉和修辞学的复兴与跨学科发展做出了重要贡献;此外,它还为当今社会各种修辞话语分析模式(如意识形态修辞批评和批评话语分析)提供了理论和方法上的指导。

As a cross-disciplinary thinker,Habermas and his communicative thought have attracted great attention in contemporary western rhetoric field.Through sorting out Habermas’communicative thought,this paper uncovers its overlap with the contemporary western rhetoric,namely both originate from the analysis of contemporary social problems,focus on interpersonal communication,and have the same aim.Meanwhile,this paper points out the contributions that Habermas’communicative thought has made to contemporary western rhetorical theory and practice.It not only expands the scope of rhetorical study and enriches the contemporary western rhetorical theory,but also contributes to repairing the broken relationship between rhetoric and philosophy,recovering the good reputation of rhetoric,and facilitating the rejuvenation and cross-disciplinary development of contemporary rhetoric.In addition,Habermas’communicative thought provides theoretical and methodological guidance to various rhetorical discourse analysis models such as ideological rhetorical criticism and critical discourse analysis.
