Voluntary Service Defined from the Perspective of Ethics

志愿服务是志愿者基于对志愿服务伦理价值的深刻认识与领悟,本着不求回报的无私奉献精神,自觉自愿地为社会公益事业或者陌生他者特别是弱势群体提供无偿服务或帮助的伦理行为。对于这一定义,我们可以从以下几个方面去理解和把握:出于理性自觉的伦理行为;以实现社会公益为基本价值取向的伦理行为;以无偿性利他主义为核心价值观的伦理行为;与慈善既相区别又相联系的伦理行为;有别于传统帮扶的伦理行为。

Voluntary service could be considered as an ethical behavior from the perspective of ethics.It is based on the deep understanding of ethical values and the spirit of selfless dedication,with which volunteers provide free services and help in social public welfare undertakings or to strangers,especially the vulnerable groups.With regard to this definition,we can understand and grasp this concept from the following points:ethical behavior out of rational self-consciousness;ethical behavior with the realization of social welfares as the basic value orientation;ethical behavior with the core value of gratuitous altruism;ethical behavior that is distinct from and associated with charity;ethical behavior different from traditional concept of helping others.
