Hassler Whitney is a famous American topologist of the 20th century,the winner of Wolf Prize in Mathematics in 1982.Whitney has made significant contributions in the fields of graph theory,differentiable mapping,algebraic topology,geometric integration,and singularity theory,and founded the topology of differential manifolds,which shifted the center of topology gradually from Europe to the United States.Whitney has a close academic relationship with Chinese mathematicians,and he has a profound impact on the development of Chinese mathematics.
