As the Marxist theory of the rule of law in contemporary China, the theoretical system of Xi Jinping thought on the rule of law originates from the summary of practical experience, the condensation of rational ideas and the sublimation of theoretical cognition. To understand this thought scientifically, we must adhere to the organic unity of history, theory and practice. From the perspective of generation mechanism, Xi Jinping thought on the rule of law inherits the core essence of Marxist classical writers’ legal thoughts and absorbs the wisdom and nourishment of Chinese rule of law culture. It is a profound summary and innovative development of the practice of socialist rule of law construction by successive Chinese Communists. From the perspective of scientific connotation, Xi Jinping thought on the rule of law, as a systematic and complete theoretical system, has profoundly answered major questions such as “what is the comprehensive rule of law” and “how to promote the comprehensive rule of law”, and has provided the fundamental political direction, basic strategic goals and important guarantee force for China to comprehensively promote the rule of law. From the perspective of practice orientation, to implement Xi Jinping thought on the rule of law, we should adhere to the problem orientation and accurately answer the practical issues of comprehensively governing the country by law. We should adhere to the method orientation and use philosophical thinking to solve practical problems in the construction of the rule of law. We need to be goal-oriented and focus on the goal of comprehensively governing the country in accordance with the law.
