From the beginning of the 13th century, the Mongol Empire's great conquests in Asia and Europe from east to west had a huge impact on both Europe and the eastern world. The Eurasian continent, which was opened up as a result of the Mongol conquests, attracted numerous missionaries, merchants and travellers from the West, who came to the distant eastern dynasties with different objectives in mind.Silk, the most economically valuable and sought-after luxury item in transnational trade, and the most valuable gift in negotiations for alliances between Europe,Central Asia and China during this period, arrived in Europe in unprecedented quantities at the end of the Middle Ages. These exquisite Oriental silks not only influenced the artistic style of Gothic silk in 14th century Italy, but also had a non-negligible impact on the art of painting of the same period. It is proposed to explore the logical relationships hidden behind the links between Oriental silks and the art of 14th century Italian painting.
