英语“褒贬同词”现象翻译研究

英汉两种语言都有着极其丰富的具有感情色彩的词语。译者在面对感情色彩更为复杂的“褒贬同词”现象时,不仅要揣摩其背后的文化因素,如感情色彩、文化内涵等,也要选择合适的词语来表达。文章简要阐述了前人对“褒贬同词”现象的研究,列举了部分典型及其误译现象,分析了该现象的成因,并提出切实可行的翻译策略,如正确把握感情色彩、充分理解文化内涵和灵活运用翻译方法等,以期达到更进一步研究“褒贬同词”现象的目的。

Both English and Chinese languages are extremely rich in emotive words.When translating the more complicated phenomenon of “the same word with both commendatory and derogatory meanings”,it would be better if we not only understand the cultural factors behind the translation,such as emotive colors and cultural connotations,but also make appropriate choices of words to express them.The article briefly demonstrates the previous studies done by scholars on the phenomenon of “the same word with both commendatory and derogatory meanings”,lists several typical renditions and mistranslations,analyzes the causes of it,and proposes practical translation tactics,such as correctly grasping emotive colors,fully understanding the cultural connotations and flexibly using translation methods,with the purpose of further studying it.
