This article studies the Changu Narayan Temple compound, located on the top of Changu Hill in the northeast Kathmandu valley. It demonstrates the interrelationship between the material elements and the worshippers’behaviours and senses in the everyday and festive religious activities at Changu Narayan. The article draws on the theories of material culture studies to explore how the embodied practices of integrated perceptions connect with transcendental power and the significance of the shared perceptual experience for the ongoing construction of the‘power place’.This article further argues that describing‘living heritage’in terms of its‘use’does not sufficiently reveal the essence of its heritage values.Instead, the worshippers’shared perceptual experience gained through embodied practices guarantees the continuity of worship and thus preserves the continuity of heritage.
