广东南海粤语的小称变调有高平变调[γ]55(源于调值较高的单字调)和高升变调[γ]35(源于调值较低的单字调)。小称变调普遍发生在名词上。在变调形式上,广府片粤语与粤西、广西粤语的小称变调同为高变调,差异在于是否依声调调值发生进一步分化融合。粤西、广西粤语小称变调主要表小,还表特指以区分不同事物,而广府粤语主要表特指以区分不同事物。

The tone value of diminutive tone in Nanhai district in Foshan city in Guangdong province are high level [γ]55 and high rising [γ]35, respectively from monosyllabic words of high pitch and low pitch. It is common with nouns. The diminutive tone value of Yue dialects of Guangfu cluster and those in western Guangdong province and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region are all high pitch and the difference among them lies in whether they merge or separate according to the diminutive tone value. The diminutive tone of dialects in western Guangdong and Guangxi mainly indicates SMALL and specifies different items, while those in dialects of Guangfu cluster of Yue group has the latter function only.
