“严熊书札”的节钞与刊布问题发微

On the Issue of Excerpts and Publication“Yan Fu’s Letters to Xiong Yuyang”

以严复手稿为依凭,以“严熊书札”的节钞和刊布为考察中心,从胡先骕阅读和处理“严熊书札”时的心路、学路及时势出发,对其推出“二次阅读”文化产品的原因、过程等,做了一个初步的分析,获得了如下的认识:一、“严熊书札”之所以刊布,在于它作为思想资源,反映着文化保守主义的同声相求及价值取向。二、根据“撷其菁华”的宗旨,胡先骕选择了最有价值的内容公之于众。“菁华”的判定,既来自严复思想本身,更有着胡氏的阅读体验和时势刺激。三、在“书札”的节钞过程中,删芟的内容,既有对不合旨趣者所作的放弃,但在特定的政治时势下由于颇存顾忌,或因思想立场的冲突而带来困扰,有些符合旨趣者也隐去不提。

The excerpts and publication of “Yan Fu’s Letters to Xiong Yuyang” was a product of “second reading”, which was influenced by Hu Xiansu’s mind, learning style and current situation in reading and processing. It is mainly reflected in the following aspects: 1. As an ideological resource against cultural radicalism, the value of “Yan Fu’s Letters to Xiong Yuyang” was enormous. 2. The judgment of “valuable content” came not only from Yen Fu’ s thought itself, but also from Hu’ s reading experience and the stimulation of the times. 3. In the specific political situation, due to some scruples, or because of the conflict of ideological positions, some contents which conformed to the purport were truncated.
