Shelley has created a female character Asia with multiple meanings in his lyric drama Prometheus Unbound.In the artistic work,Asia was a combination of wisdom,beauty and love.Besides,Shelley has endowed Asia with acute perception,sharp criticism and the gift of prophecy.Moreover,he has integrated Asia into Prometheus’sacred cause of sacrifice to human benefit.Through the image of Asia,Shelley presented his advanced view of women and expresses his political ideal.Furthermore,the poet proposes that poetry and women with virtue will form the subject in the construction of his ideal world.
