Stay True to the Original Aspiration in the Long Academic Journey: An Interview with Professor Hu Zhuanglin on Linguistics and Foreign Language Education

本访谈围绕胡壮麟教授在语言学尤其是功能语言学和外语教育领域的学术思想、治学心得展开。他谈到对语言学相关理论和流派的认识,论及语言学专业设置与国家需求之间的关系,提出在“新文科、大外语”的历史发展阶段,外语学科人才培养应注重扩大学生的知识面。胡壮麟教授对学术传承十分看重,鼓励中青年学者勇于超越前辈,百花齐放、百家争鸣,力促学科高质量发展。

In the interview, renowned scholar Prof. Hu Zhuanglin shared his understanding of the related linguistic theories and genres, as well as the evolution of linguistics teaching in China. He mentioned the relationship between the linguistic major and its social-cultural function, and also put forward, in the spirit of “new liberal arts, macro foreign languages”, that the cultivation of talents need to expand students’ scope of knowledge. Prof. Hu Zhuanglin attaches great importance to academic inheritance and encourages young and middle-aged scholars to surpass their mentors and promote the development of the discipline.
