20世纪之前中国戏剧典籍英译的社会历史考察

A Social and Historic Study of the English Translation of Classical Chinese Drama before the 20st Century

早期的中国戏剧典籍英译活动始于18世纪,持续到19世纪都未形成较大的规模。探寻这两个世纪的戏剧典籍英译活动轨迹,能够得知当时的戏剧英译依附于宗教、政治等活动,并且带有文化利用的色彩,并不是真正意义上的学术活动,这也为后来的我国戏剧主动走出去提供了启示。

The English translation of classical Chinese drama dates back to the 18th century and is continued to the 19th century. The translation activities in the two centuries are affiliated to religious and political activities with a purpose of cultural utilization, hence they can not be considered as academic activities. However, the social and historic study of the translation activities in this period can shed light on the dissemination of classical Chinese drama.
