On the Awareness of Modernity in Early Modern Chuanqi Critiques

近代传奇评点者由于所处环境的特殊性,其眼界和思想发生了变化,对传统的戏曲批评理念有所偏离。他们在传奇评点中对中外社会现实的关注、对西方先进科技和文化的引入、对自由民主平等观念的推崇、对旧有传奇体制的革新等,都体现出一定的现代性意识,在戏曲革命的进程中具有特殊意义。

In the particular social environment of early modern China, the vision and philosophy of chuanqi critics underwent great changes. Chuanqi critics deviated from the traditional philosophy of xiqu critique and took a modern path. They demonstrated their interest in the social reality at home and abroad, the introduction of the advanced technology and culture from the West, the philosophy of liberty and equality, and the reformation of traditional chuanqi, all indicating their modern awareness that is significant in the revolution of xiqu.
