This study suggests that several categories of artifacts found among Xianbei remains in southern Hulunbuir and adjacent areas are exotic cultural remains imported from the Minusinsk Basin,Tuva and neighboring regions in southern Siberia. These artifacts include glass beads with gold foil, bronze fu cauldrons with high ring-foots,fu-shaped pottery jars, bronze plaques with winged and running horse motifs, and belt ornaments with back-turned deer motifs.Belt ornaments with back-turned deer motifs are predecessors of bronze plaques with triple-deer motifs exclusively found with the Xianbei people.Cultural exchange and transmission routes between southern Siberia and Hulunbuir, contemporaneous with but circumventing the Xiongnu center of power, can be viewed as the “Steppe Silk Roads” of the Western and Eastern Han dynasties.
